A Day of Service for Those Who Served

Marquette Veteran’s Free Day of Care

On October 16, 2025, the MCDC Marquette Center hosted its first Veterans Free Day of Care, bringing together clinical teams, community partners, and local leaders to serve those who have served our country.

Sponsored by the Delta Dental Foundation, the event provided comprehensive dental care to 48 veterans in a single day. Many of the veterans had not seen a dentist in years and were living with untreated gum disease, broken teeth, failing restorations, and ongoing pain. For some, this was their first opportunity in a long time to address longstanding oral health concerns.

Throughout the day, the Marquette and Engadine teams delivered cleanings, extractions, fillings, crowns, and denture fittings, restoring both function and confidence. The care extended beyond the dental chair. Representatives from the VA were onsite to assist veterans in navigating additional benefits and resources, helping connect them to broader support systems.

Michigan State Representative Karl Bohnak joined the event to witness firsthand the impact of expanded access to care in Michigan’s northern communities. The day offered a powerful reminder of the ongoing need for strong partnerships and sustainable investment in the dental safety net.
Once full treatment plans are completed, nearly $40,000 in services will have been provided fully funded through the generosity of the Delta Dental Foundation.

This event was more than a day of clinical care. It was a demonstration of what is possible when mission, teamwork, and community partnership align. For the veterans who walked through our doors, it meant relief from pain, restored confidence, and the reassurance that their service is honored not only in words, but in action.

And for our teams, it reinforced why access to care matters, especially in rural and underserved communities across Michigan.
